Campus Safety and Security

Group 6-3

To foster intellectual growth and community building, higher ed campuses need to provide a safe and secure environment. For many college campuses though, the past two years were filled with a blend of in-person, fully remote, and hybrid instruction. With this new dynamic at play, do students feel safe on campus? And what influences now define their perception of safety? In the latest Student Voice survey by Inside Higher Ed and College Pulse, sponsored by Kaplan, more than 2,000 students from 100+ higher ed institutions answered a range of questions about campus safety and security.

Student data was collected from May 13 to May 19, 2022, through the College Pulse mobile app and web portal, and weighted to be nationally representative of two- and four-year college student populations.

Key Questions Include:

● What could colleges do to help students feel more safe and secure?

● Are there different aspects to campus safety and security that institutional leaders need to address now and in a post-pandemic era?

 ● How safe do students feel as pedestrians around campus, in terms of sharing roads with cars, bicyclists, scooter riders, etc.?
