Student Perspective on Data Privacy

How do college students feel about data privacy?

Group 6-3

Experts say students must learn to think more critically about data privacy -- and question their institution’s collection and use of student data. Conducted by Inside Higher Ed and College Pulse and presented by Kaplan, this survey of 2,286 college students shows the critical gaps that higher education needs to close for these younger generations to be safe and secure now and in the coming years. College student data was collected from July 13 – July 19, 2021, through the College Pulse mobile app and web portal, and weighted to be nationally representative of two- and four-year college student populations.

Key Questions Include:

● Does your school have a data privacy policy in place?
If you wanted to, do you have the ability to set permissions for the data your college collects about you?    ● How important is it to you that your college has a student data privacy policy in place?
● To you knowledge, what information does your college collect about you?
